Ace Paragraph: "the love song of j. alfred Prufrock"
In the poem "The Love Song of j. alfred Prufrock" by T.s. eliot, the author uses repetition and rhetorical questions to convey the main character's indecisiveness and anxiety towards his actions, the past, the present, and the future, as well as the concept of time in general. Paradoxically, throughout the literary work Prufrock doesn't want to risk rejection, yet desires to be accepted. This contrast is also demonstrated by the fact that he is in a room surrounded by people, yet he still feels alone, thus speaking to modern time period sentiments- seclusion and isolation. As he ponders on past life decisions repeating that he questioned "Do i dare?" "Do I dare?" the audience can see him begin to unravel. In the present, entropy and time pull at him from all directions, and his world begins to crumble as he feels the presence of eyes judging him as he sits in the room feeling like a bug "pinned and wriggling on the wall." furthermore, the audience senses his uncertainty for the future when he questions "shall i part my hair behind? do i dare eat a peach?" Prufrock can feel death approaching while also acknowledging regrets from prior moments. as his temporal notions slowly blend into eternity, the inner frustration he singlehandedly feels, also resonates with people from desolate, frustrating modern times. although everyone has quirky internal thoughts at times, j. alfred prufrock's seem to be causing him more harm than good, and because he ponders too frequently about such an abstract concept (time), he attains no peace or resolution, a feeling much like someone in hell would experience- so to some extent he remains trapped in his own devilish mind.
